A Short History of Marmora,  with Pebbles and Twigs from Marble Point

Mr. Freeman was a regular lodger at Marble Point Lodge,  in Crowe Lake,  and in 1946 he wrote a short but very interesting history of our area

He writes:

NO ATTEMPT HAS BEEN MADE TO RESORT TO THE ARCHIVES FOR DOCUMENTARY DATA PERTAlNING TO THIS FRIENDLY LITTLE COMMUNITY,BUT, WHILE ENJOYING THE WHOLESOME  HOSPITALITY OF MARBLE POINT LODGE, I HAVE ENDEAVOURED TO COMPILE A SHORT, AND I TRUST, AN lNTERESTING HISTORY OF THE SURROUNDING DISTRICT.  IT MUST BE UNDERSTOOD, HOWEVER, THAT GREAT CARE WAS TAKEN IN RECORDING THE FACTS AND TRADITIONS ACCUMULATED.

WITHOUT THE KIND ASSISTANCE AND GENEROUS CO-OPERATION OF THE  FOLLOWlNG  CITIZENS THIS WORK COULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE, AND I NOW THANK THEM FOR THEIR  KlNDNESSES:   MR. DONALD GUNN,  PROPRIETOR OF THE LODGE;  MR. W. J. COTTRELL, LOCAL NEWS REPORTER;  THE REVEREND FATHER H. J. FARRELL OF THE CHURCH OF THE SACRED HEART;  THE REVEREND J. M. BROWNLIE, RECTOR OF ST. PAUL'S ANGLICAN CHURCH; THE MISSES CLAREMONT, MR. T.  WARREN AND HIS DAUGHTER, GRACE;  CONSTABLEW. D. LAVENDER, MR. JAMES SHANNON, PHM.B.;  MRS. CHARLES A. BLEEKER, MR. AND MRS. T. E. POTTS,  MISS MARY HUGHES, MISS MARION SAVAGE, MISS. ELIZABETH FEENEY, MRS. JOSEPHINE THOMPSON, AND DR. AND MRS. NORMAN F. FOY OF TORONTO.
