The equipment at Marmoraton mine, like the pit itself, increased in size, throughout the mine's lifespan. This photo, taken by Harry Barrons, was of one of the shovels used in 1978.
Darryl McInroy added: Shovel #3 was electric....the yellow cable you see supplied the electricity to the shovel. My job was to ravel or unravel the cable, depending if the shovel was going forward or reverse. If I remember correctly the cable weighted about 11 lbs per foot.
Wayne VanVolkenburg added : I did the same work as a student in 1965. There was a lot of cable to roll up when the shovel was moved, before a blasting operation in that area.
Another job was moving a rubber boot around so the big trucks would back up to the boot...eliminating the shovel from moving. Those were some very long shifts....working in the pit...funny thing their was always a breeze down their and looking up from the bottom....their never seemed to be anyway out.
